I can't believe we are at the end of October already. time just zooms by too quickly once you reach a certain age. when your a kid it feels like forever when you are waiting on the winter holidays. but the older you get the faster it goes by leaving you with very little time to plan, shop, cook, and enjoy the actual holiday. actually i think it has nothing to do with age but more to do with having kids. cause you want them to stay little guys forever but they just keep growing and before you know it they are graduating high school.
yup i'm missing my baby mina because she is graduating this year. we just celebrated her 18th birthday. geesh at her age i was about to get married and start a family. i can't believe that i have raised this kid all these years. when i think back on all that we have been through together it's amazing. Her biological father has missed out on so much since he decided to write us out of his life when she was 2.
i have had the great opportunity to see all the firsts, to cheer her on, and to feel her pain when it didn't work out the way she wanted it to. i am so very proud of the grown up version of my mini-me. but i can't take all the credit. my mom was there for us a lot and was by my side to help me make it through the rough mommy moments. then when she was 8 i met chris and ever since then he has been dad. and bio dad is scotty.
she has the greatest sarcastic humor and witty quick answers that leave you scratching your head.... cause itburrrrnnns (that 70's show) but she is also very loving, trusting, honest, forgiving, smart, beautiful, hardworking, quick to please, learns fast and loves her parents, siblings & friends dearly. we have been lucky to be her parents. i love her so much and i get sad when i think of the day that she will move out on her own. i would have her living here the rest of her life if it was up to me. :)
okay i'm done being so sappy. but i wanted to give a shout out to my fellow punkymoms who have been there for me and given such awesome support and advice. i found them totally by accident and love them like family. there are some kick ass ladies in this group. this is how i met my dear friend maddy. she has become one of the greatest friends i have had the pleasure of knowing.
this month they are having a giveaway. visit the link below and leave a comment to enter. and if your a punkymom take the time to sign up for the forum, you will have a good time....promise.

i love musicals
i just spent the morning watching some of my favorite clips on you tube. i have loved musicals since i was little and now my girls love 'em too. thought i would share some of my favs.
i love to sing this to the girls it always cracks them up. they love to say to me "we love you miss hannigan" lol
jewel and marina love this one as much as i do.
one of my absolute favorites is a chorus line i've seen it a million times. when i was little i wanted to be cassie so bad. this is what i thought i would do when i grew up. i loved to dance and sing....okay i still do. :) but unfortunately i'm still waiting to grow up. i'll be 40 in a few years, my body feels it but my mind hasn't caught up yet.
this is why i took band and choir. i learned to read music, sing in the proper key, and how to count steps while playing or singing the music. band was really good for learning how to stay in line with everyone else while still performing. i never thought it would be so easy to memorize music, play it and still remember how many steps to take here and there to keep in line with everyone else. i loved it so much and practiced a lot.
ha i think i still have this record somewhere around here. i played this a lot when i first got it.
who didn't want to be frances houseman......
one of my favorites from that movie
love love love this song. my friends and i went to the anniversary release of grease the movie and sang along the whole time. i had so much fun that night!!
i also loved grease 2 and know all the songs in that one. most people who loved grease don't care for the second one but i thought it was great. maxwell caulfield & adrian zmed made it very easy to watch. ;)
this was one of my favs....because i love reproduction!!
another movie i adored when i was little
love all the songs in this movie too and i absolutely adore the clothes. i love it when women have curves, to me that is a real body! thank you ever so.....
this one is my absolute favorite ever i adore barbra streisand. i think i was meant to be born a gay man. lol
i've always felt like a bagel on a plate full of onion rolls. i always felt like fanny brice the funny girl with the big nose and skinny legs!
my mom and i sang this quietly together after chris and i got married. the first thing she said to me after the ceremony was "mija your a sadie" she loves this movie too.
okay i'm done for now. i could do this all day. :)

more crafty goodies
i mentioned to chris how much i loved the sulky thread so he said if you want to go buy some more i can drive you up there.......but if you do can we also go by hobby lobby so i can get some more coin books. yeah i knew there had to be an ulterior motive.
so i went to joanns and bought myself a few things. trevor janie (i think that's her name) said you called the night before right before closing because you needed some more dallas cowboy fabric. lol i told her how i needed something last sunday and realized it was 5 minutes before closing and that i didn't think i could get anybody to wait for me to speed up there. next time i have an emergency i will call you to have them stay open for me. *wink*
i got myself some gutermann thread. i had a 50% off coupon so i decided to treat myself and buy the 26 spool thread box. it has so many purty colors it's like a rainbow in a box.

i also bought 3 patterns because they were on sale for 99 cents. the costume one is for lucien, he is going to be a pirate for halloween. the second one is a dress pattern that i bought to make sophia some dresses. and the project runway pattern will be dresses for portia.

while i was at joanns i decided to pick up some more elastic and the striped fabric for lucien's pirate pants. the costume fabric was on sale for 50% off this week so i decided to go ahead and get that out of the way. i found a tutorial on craftster that i'm going to use to make a pirate shirt and the vest will be made with skull fabric that i already have. they didn't have 1/2" elastic in white not even in the pre-packaged stuff so i decided to go with the black. hopefully it won't show through any of the fabric.
then we went over to hobby lobby and the calicos were on sale for 30% off so i decided to buy a couple of yards for me. i love the japanese print on the left and i could not find anything to go with it that i just absolutely loved so i settled for the tan colored print on the right. i may have something in my stash that will look better with it but since i was already there i decided to try and find something there. now i wish i had bought something else that i really loved and worried about pairing them up later, but oh well. it's hard to think when you have a husband breathing down your neck because your impatient toddler keeps squealing his head off for all the fabric with cars printed on them.

and of course i took a quick peek into the remnants bin. i love to find little bits and pieces. i usually have no idea what i will do with them but they always beg me to take them home. so i found another calico that was just too sweet to leave in that lonely bin. it's called tea for two and it is so girly. i have a weakness for roses.

today was gina's wedding, she is a classmate of marina's. marina dug around in my closet and found one of my old dresses and asked if she could borrow it for today. she looks so much better in it than i ever did. i love that she has curves, my beautiful baby girl is so grown up.
we had fun with the pictures before she left, these are my two favorites.

then when eric came to pick her up i took a few of them and these are the 2 favorite of those. my boobs never looked that good in this dress, even with lots of padding!!

a skirt for jewel
i finished jewels skirt last night and she loves it. yay!! she doesn't like wearing skirts very much so i'm glad that she likes this one. i have already cut the fabric for one of my nieces skirts and will be sewing it up today.

a little note to other sewing mamas. i have always read that when you have problems with your machine acting up one of the things you should check is the thread. i bought some sulky thread the other night at joanns because it was on sale so i thought i would try it. well let me tell you it makes a huge difference! i will now be buying good thread to sew with instead of what i had been using. which i thought was good thread but boy was i soooo wrong.

more sewing
i started working on another skirt last night for jewel. i'm having so much fun making these i think i'm addicted. :) so i decided earlier today that i will be making some for my niece, her birthday is next month she will be 2. i think i'm also going to try and make her a peasant top using this very good patternthat i found the other night. it looks easy enough for me to follow and she includes the sizes for a 2. i was going to use lucien for measurements but i can only imagine how hard he would fight me while trying to measure him.
i will post pics of jewel's skirt in a little bit when i'm done sewing it up. i only have to hem it and add the elastic around the waist.
i forgot to mention that the last week in september i had the most wonderful opportunity to babysit my 2nd cousin Phoenix. he came and stayed for a few days. chris was out of town so he got to sleep in my bed with me. awww he was so cuddly and sweet. at night he would wake up and rub my head like he was making sure that i was still there.
isn't he just too cute?!
his mom needed someone to take him for a few days until she could get her and the 2 older children situated. their house was flooded during hurricane ike and with all the mess of dealing with that it was too hard to keep up with the little guy. and his dad (my cousin) works very long hours.
he is such a good baby, he's 10 months old. he put up with a lot of crap from lucien and never complained about it. everytime he picked up a toy to play with it lucien would take it from him phoenix looked a little confused and then would just pick up another toy. lol lucien also enjoyed trying to drum on his head, oy i can't tell you how many times i said "LUCIEN QUIT HITTING HIS HEAD!!" phoenix never cried and would smile at him like he was enjoying the attention.
they also kept playing on the stairs together. it was scaring the crap out of me because i worried that phoenix would tumble down the stairs, but he loved following lucien up to the top and would laugh and giggle. so i ended up sitting on the stairs a lot. at one point i went to the bathroom and thought my mom was keeping an eye on them when i hear this thud thud thud and then crying. i opened the door and yelled at my mom that i thought the baby was falling down the stairs.
she was in the kitchen and ran over there. she said lucien had phoenix pinned against the wall and that both of them had a terrified look on their faces. phoenix had started to fall down the stairs and lucien pinned him against the wall to stop him from falling. wow! after my mom picked up phoenix they both started to cry. lucien was totally freaked out about phoenix possibly hurting himself, it was the sweetest thing. i held lucien and my mom held phoenix while they both cried from fright.
lucien kept reaching for phoenix and babbling the whole time like he was trying to tell us what happened while at the same time worrying about whether phoenix was alright or not. so cute.
when jason came to pick up phoenix everyone was sad to see him go we all had such a good time while he was here. the kids especially did not want him to go home. so hopefully we will get to have him over for a visit again soon.

finished the skirt
I'm so proud of myself i finished a complete outfit!! yay for me. :) popa got home from school and tried on the whole thing and it fits great. she did ask me to make the elastic in the sleeves a little bigger because it was too tight for her. i thought it was too small but i was following the pattern, now i know to go with my gut.
here she is modeling her new outfit. she always poses so stiff like it's a line up photo or a mugshot. hee hee hee and forget the natural smile she is so stinkin' cute!

here is the skirt on the hanger right before she got home from school. i finished it just in time. now she wants me to make a hairbow to match. oy so after i fix the elastic in the arms i have to see if i have ribbon in black & orange. oh and btw no rush mom the picture day is tomorrow. doh!

this would have been finished a lot faster if my toddler would cooperate at night and go to sleep at a decent hour. and if he didn't spend the day insisting on sitting on my lap. i wish he was still little enough to wear in a wrap it would make my day so much easier!

sewing till my fingers fall off
On thursday portia has picture day at school and she asked me to get her a halloween outfit to wear in the picture. i have so much halloween type fabric i decided to bust out the stash and try to make something for her. i just finished this peasant blouse for her and after dinner i'm going to start working on a 3 tiered skirt for her to wear with the shirt. she picked out the fabrics. she loves the shirt yay!! i'm not so good at sewing clothing that fits correctly so i was a little worried about making this outfit for her, but now that i see how well the shirt came out i'm very excited to make the skirt. trevor will be so proud. :)

i finally got around to taking pictures of the fabrics i will be using to make the rag quilts for the girls. this are the two that marina picked out. the striped one is a baby flannel and it is so soft she will love laying around with it. now maybe i can get my childhood woobie back.

these are all the fabrics that jewel picked. i love the two with the skulls and the one with the peace signs. i got enough of that peace sign fabric to have a little left over for me to make something for myself. don't know what it will be just yet but i love that one so much!

these are the two that popa picked out for her quilt. i think she is going to have a hard time keeping it away from lucien. he loves the fabric with the little emergency vehicles on it.

and this is just a random shot of my pin bowl. i keep all of my extra quilting pins in this lovely crystal bowl that a friend in massachusetts gave me a long time ago. it has a matching bigger bowl that sits in my bathroom with random things piled in it. i think it was meant to be used as a salad bowl and the baby bowls are for serving the salad. but they are too pretty to have them in the kitchen getting dinged up.

i also found a sewing machine today that i will be buying. i looked around a lot and read a lot of reviews. i was going to treat myself to a bernina or juki but found a kenmore that i really like and it's on sale. it has a lot of really good reviews so i'm going to take the plunge and buy myself a brand new machine. all of my other machines are vintage and this will be the first brand new machine i have ever purchased. i really hope it works as well as the reviewers say it does. i don't want to have my cookie crumbled. as much as i love my old singers i need something with a free arm and the brother is just not cutting it when it comes to thicker fabrics and multiple layers.
so now i must go eat and then get back to the sewing. it's killing my back and i feel like i was beat like a pinata but the end results are so worth it. i love to see my kiddo's smile when they get something handmade by mama. :)

I must be crazy
i took all 4 of the kids to joann's by myself so that they could pick out fabric for their quilts. they did really well except for a few minor meltdowns by lucien. marina & portia picked out two fabrics each and jewel picked 6! she liked so many of them she could not settle on just two. oops she is my kid, she will be a fabric addict too. i will have to take some pics of the fabric before i cut them all up.
lucien kept picking fabrics to stare at and touch. everyone he chose had some sort of car on it. lol he is a car junky, he loves cars & trains. i already started working on his quilt and it's fabric that i bought when he was a newborn. doh, i'm just now making time to work on it. i had chosen rocket stuff for him because at the time chris was a rocket making fool. now he is into coins and the rocket stuff is just gathering dust. i may have to go back and buy some car prints to make lucien a different quilt. maybe i'll list the rocket one on etsy if it comes out nice.

i received an email from the coordinator of the school fall craft show asking if i wanted to participate during the fall carnival in november. i was thinking about doing the show, but in the spring i barely made back the money to cover the cost of the booth. i went through a lot of trouble to prepare for that show and there was hardly any advertising so not a lot of people actually came to the show. this one will take place during the fall carnival so there would probably be a lot more attending but i don't know if i want to deal with all of that right now.
it would be good to fill my time crafting away but i hate being stuck with tons of stuff after the show. it's also right before the holidays so there would probably be more people looking for gifts but again i don't want to spend a ton of time and money right before i have to buy gifts for all the kids. all the time and money i put into the spring show i didn't even come close to making back in sales. i also think my jewelry is just not meant for the school mom crowd. although i have one customer who really enjoys my stuff and she said she gets lots of compliments on the jewelry when she wears it. and she is very actively involved in school activities. so who knows?? lol
i think i need to take my 401's to mcdougals to have them serviced. they both have been giving me grief lately but maybe it's because i can't get the tension just right. i have had quite a few late night arguments with both of the girls and they just don't want to cooperate! last night i whipped out my old brother and threatened to use him instead they both cringed and begged not to be put away so we will see how tonight goes with them. i can hear them upstairs right now chastising each other for behaving badly so i'm sure tonight will go much better. ;)
i can only take it one at a time because one of their power cords decided to poop out on me a while back. so while one is in the shop i will have to use me old brother. i also don't look forward to spending 200 bucks to have them serviced right before christmas but i do plan to sew some gifts so i will just have to suck it up and pay.
chris was working late tonight and just got home so i suppose i should go chat with him for a while. especially since i asked for a new laptop last night. i told him i would take that as a birthday/anniversary/christmas gift. and that he wouldn't have to buy me anything big for a while. although secretly i'm wanting another sewing machine, something new but basic. i don't need all the bells and whistles but i want something that is going to last a while. then i can pass on the girls to my baby girls. :)

chris was working late tonight and just got home so i suppose i should go chat with him for a while. especially since i asked for a new laptop last night. i told him i would take that as a birthday/anniversary/christmas gift. and that he wouldn't have to buy me anything big for a while. although secretly i'm wanting another sewing machine, something new but basic. i don't need all the bells and whistles but i want something that is going to last a while. then i can pass on the girls to my baby girls. :)
